MY MAN

I love my men in suits..not those shiny ones that are sewn somewhere in
an underground basement at Kariobangi market(Shout out to my boy Jon
who will kill me for dissing Kariobangi..lol.)

Or those really light
ones that look like they were sewn from some over washed(or overly bleached',
I suspect this more) fabric that used to be a table mat somewhere!

No, not those..Im talking about a suit tailored to the wearers body;
one that fits properly in the shoulders when worn, One with shortened
sleeves which end at the hinge of the wrist so a silver shirt cuff
peaks out.
One with pants that don't have too much "break."(baggy)

Im beginning to sound like a salesperson..hehe.

Basically, the kind of suit that contours to its wearers torso.
Classy, right?

A good suit speaks volumes about character and organization.

The apparent volume is resounded especially when the wearer ACTUALLY
bears the above forementioned traits.

Peter Kenneth is one such owner of a good suit.

A good suit is like second nature to him and my oh my what volumes his
suits speaks! The best thing about  what his suits say about him is
that he actually bears those traits.

Organization..this man is as good a manager as Horace was a
poet if his management of the Gatanga CDF is anything to go by.
..and have you read his manifesto? Impressive in every sentence,
concise and to the point.

I spent some time scouring the net and engaging in a little
'called-for' grapevine to see if I could dig any dirt on him but lo
and behold, that is time I may never recover!

I love to recycle but for me it only goes as far as plastics are concerned, not leaders!; He is not a saint, no one is, but his character and leadership is an
experience id love to savour.
That is why Peter Kenneth is 'MY MAN' for the year 2013..and beyond:)

ps..find his website(+do register for his sms service) here.

Saturday 24 November 2012

I think I should call this 'Relationship Weekend' or '2cents Weekend' and give it its on tab on the menu once I figure out my css..lol.
Who laughs at their own joke?Me!
Well, yet another week gone. Time to reflect on its productiveness or the lack of it. Assess it like a consent form before agreeing to be wheeled to surgery!<---what manner of expression is this?:o
Like the weeks end needs assessing, so do our relationships at work and away from work.
Our relationships away from work are very significant because they, somehow, ultimately affect our work, one way or the other.

Seat back,

So, you've been dating your man/woman for some years now. It does not matter what you want from the relationship, marriage or fringe benefits, ceteris paribus (all things held constant. Ps..excuse my language preferences. My grandmother reckons il fall for someone in academia so I'm merely practicing), I believe in progression. Most humans do.

If there's no progress i.e. No sign of commitment(for whoever falls in this category- a lot of people do), contractual changes with augmentation of benefits(for those looking at fringe benefits) or a scheduled visit to the jewelers(for those looking at marriage), ASSESS my dear friend, ASSESS.

My pastor says, "You cannot make omlettes without breaking eggs". I'm quite sure he read it off one of those 'Zig Ziglar' or 'Chicken for the soul books'. makes a lot of sense though. Back to my pastor. A good relationship cannot be based on unsure footing. You must be willing to ask the tough questions, take bold steps and stand your ground, even though it might not always wash well with some people.

My 2cents,
(i) A friend of mine says "Don't make dating your boyfriend/girlfriend a career". I agree. Even people with careers get upgrades with time for doing a good job.
So, either you're terrible at what you're doing and need to review career choices or you've a horrid boss who is averse to good work and/or effort!(in which case you need to flee and focus your creative juices on another boss or YOURSELF)

ii) Don't be too lenient with people. I doubt your boss is on you.
Speak your mind. Set targets(Clear and achievable ones..remember you're dealing with humans who like you, fall short of the glorrraaayy), be keen and clear on what you want before you get into anything.

Lemme know how it works out;)
ps..wondering what case interview is?? Yes? Then make this your weekend read. Victor Cheng..great guy, great read!

Good Will

I am moderately graceful..or so I like to tell myself. Not so much when it comes to crossing roads in big cities.

Anyone who has seen me cross the road in town must think im possessed!
I grew up in a sheltered environment where everything was pretty much in close proximity and therefore no one really needed to use a vehicle(there werent that many either) to get anywhere. we call it call it the village in layman's language.

Boarding in high school didn't really help my road-crossing skills and campus didn't do much either since I preferred on-campus accomodation(where, again, everything was in close proximity.)
To nip the bud, I am mildly agyrophobic.

Everyday, we all have to cross some kind of road. How well(successfully) we cross it, I figure, is a function of how important the activity is or what we stand to gain from it. Indeed, "Actions spring out of what we fundamentally desire".

Today, was 1 of those days for me. I had to cross roads, literally and figuratively.
Here's what I figured(when it comes to the latter), we do not necessarily have to be part of that web spurn to gain from every activity we do(unless its work related..do NOT do *&%%$ for free in the office..lol.)
Sometimes, you have to go/do pro bono, out of a good heart, just like God willed it expecting little or nothing in return.

ION,  check this site out. Has it been helpful. in your job search? Let me know here:)

Be Warned.

Oya my people,(not too formal a greeting but I figured its Friday!)

I had an early start to my day this Friday morning. My itinerary was packed from between 0800hrs till midday!!

See how tired I was..,

In an attempt to not bore you with my boring itinerary, lets talk relationships.

Anyone who knows me(at a VERY personal level), knows im not the guru in this sector(who is)- I try though.
I love to meet new people (not always though), create fresh memories, share old experiences..,who doesn’t?
However, due to the vagaries that are human nature, we have to be extra careful with the relationships we forge, especially at work.

That nice lady at the reception who is forever complimenting everything from your shoes, lunch box to the way you pick your nose does not necessarily have your best interests at heart. Be Warned.

That co-worker with opinions from Nairobi to Timbuktu on everything and everyone should not be given an ear. ‘He who speaks of others with you will speak of you with others’. Be Warned.

That older, very motherly/ fatherly, colleague with advice on all the African rites of passage from birth-circumcision-courtship-marriage and even death..listen to them BUT share NOT a word on the shreds of your dirty linen. Don’t let people in too fast. Be Warned.

In short, YOU SHOULD KNOW PEOPLE- literary!!!:D

My 2 cents;
i)                    Be cordial and ‘lenient’ in your relationships at work
ii)                  Make friends..yes, please do, by all means. However, be still in your conversation, keep your language(body and spoken, alike) prim and proper and most importantly, concentrate on your work.
LOL..they are actually TWO..my two cents, that is!!

I don’t know about you but that is my IT plan. Yay? Or Nay?

Whats your plan(albeit regarding relations at work)? Do shareJ

..to my pictures of the day;
Chose this dress because..it was staring right at me in my wardrobe.. for a laid back Friday look. Smart casual sha!

NEW BLOGGER ALERT

Attire can make or break your day regardless of who you are; house help, student, tout..(I run out of examples) or like me, if you’re at the start of your career.
The shift from campus-work place can be quite daunting especially in ‘freedom of clothing’.
I, however, think it can be done and one can still express their style albeit with their work dress code in mind, without necessarily raising eyebrows in the wrong areas or at worst, getting fired. I’m not sure though, I intend to find out.
This blog is my forum as I seek to hone my skills in the corporate world not just in attire but etiquette, ethics, getting/closing business deals and many more I will/might discover as I grow and advance up the ladder(*winks* to my superiors) in the corporate world.
Join me as I start my journey/ adventure (praying it’s more of the latter) in the corporate world.
Ps..Here are a few unedited(very human) pics (the ones I managed to find) of my looks(In no particular order) from my days in campus; some were good, others down right shady and others, well, lets not go there..,
At Panari..ice skating with a dear friend:)

NO WORDS..God help me avoid such travesty at work!

..OMG!!! That was not my bed..I swear! +that is no gele:0

I keep this to remind me I used to have balanced  waist:hip ratio
ONLY time I ever "gotad"/fisted anything/anyone
I loved touching her belly..and the baby always kicked whenever I did:)
Happy-go-lucky..

W.T.H:0
At a wedding in school.

Once upon a time I got into a fight, my lip hang and my eye was bruised..lol. (sic..I fell down, gazed my poor eye )

Experimenting with lipstick:)
Finally, this is what I presently look like i.e. the body i'll be dressing to work..out with the short skirts/ dresses and/ or ill-fitting pants and in with 'Brit-length' acceptable trends:)
